PIP form conformation message.

Hi, I sent my completed PIP form back on the 21st July, I've just had a message this morning to say that they've received it and that, 'I may need to attend an appointment with a health professional before we make our decision'.
I'm in Leeds and I was just wondering how long people have had to wait from this point until they were given a decision and if anyone has been awarded pip with out having to have an assessment.
I've never applied for it before and I suffer from severe anxiety, the wait is causing me even more anxiety.

TIA.

Oooooh, I believe it's the best part of a 12 month turn-around now. (For a renewal. I think it's less for a new claim, maybe 2-4 months.)

I know some people who sent their renewal form in July-September 2023, and have only just had their decision. And I'm sorry to say this, but I think the vast VAST majority of people do have an assessment, but many of them are over the phone now. I think it's pretty much only terminally ill people who don't have to have one.

My one friend's claim (a renewal,) took so long that her old award was only 2 weeks from ending, and she got an extension for 12 months so she was able to get a new blue badge. Then 5 weeks after the extension, she had a phone assessment (with 10 days notice) and got the award 2 weeks later. 5 year award, stayed on the same amount of money.

They will keep paying you though - the same amount. It won't stop until the decision has been made. Even if it's over a year. Good luck!

No idea sorry. I'm still waiting a decision from April (renewal).

Is yours a new claim or a renewal?

Miley1967 · 02/09/2024 16:00

PIP claims are taking about 2 months in our area ( east midlands) to get an assessment after form is sent back. Renewals are taking up to a year.

Op isn't currently on PIP. It's her first time applying.

Mine is a new claim. I've never claimed for it before.

Oh yeah of course. Smile That refers to people already on PIP of course @Hungryhippo1320 You will still keep being paid if it's a renewal.

I applied 23 May, returned the form about a week later. My assessment was towards the end of July and then I got my decision second week of August. Just submitted my mandatory reconsideration because I got an award, but not the one I should have done and I was only 1 point short.

I missed your last line saying you have never applied before. (Sorry!) So yeah 2-4 months is the turnaround in the area I live in - for a new claim. Will be different in different areas of course. Good luck. Hope you get it. But yeah you will very likely have to have an assessment. As I said though, it could well be a phone one.

Last one I saw through was late last year. Form completed in October and award c February. I think there was a phone assessment but not 100% sure.

Hungryhippo1320 · 02/09/2024 16:17

I did say on my form that I would need a telephone appointment. My condition prevents me from being able to do daily tasks such as in person appointments and conversation. Thanks for your response.

I've just sent back my renewal form after being in receipt for two years (the award was for three years but they have a backlog hence me getting the renewal a year ahead so they can sort it in time).

I first applied in the September, had a phone assessment around March, April afterwards and was awarded about four weeks after that with the benefit paid back to my original claim date in the September.

I don't know of anyone who hasn't had an assessment and been automatically awarded.

The lady who is helping me from a local charity getting people back into work, said along the lines of 80% of people who apply for PIP get turned down (but you can ask them to review your claim). She said when it comes to renewal, about 95% of claims are renewed.

Hi, was your mandatory reconsideration successful?

Quick update; I got a text message yesterday advising me that I have an assessment on the 2nd Nov. More anxious waiting ahead 😟
