Plumber is threatening us

Hi all!
we hired a plumber to install the new bath and replace the shower. Agreed on payment (all saved in WhatsApp ). However, he is unreliable one, reschedule the original date, then didn’t show up nor messaged to finish the job. We paid him £400 out of £550 agreed for the bath and shower. My DH then discovered a lot of mistakes that in what he’s done. We decided to cancel him, sent him images of his mistakes and said that because of that we don’t require his service no more. Now he threatens us saying that he will take action as he knows our address. Should we go to police? Any advice how to handle this?

How has he threatened you?

Can you ask trading standards to look at the work and do a report so you have something that stands up in court?

Ask another plumber for the cost of repairs.

Take lots of photos.

If you’ve agreed with a contractor to do work for you and you’re dissatisfied with the work, you must give the contractor a chance to put it right. The only exception would be if they’re creating an unsafe situation.

You didn’t do this and therefore you’ve broken the contract, so the contractor is reasonable in being aggrieved. However, you shouldn’t be threatened and should report threats to the police.

my husband was fixing some things that were put wrong. He said that flooding the house would be the one possible side effect. Flipping over would be another. Also some screws were put into the wrong places and some were lost. The shower is leaking. My husband said that it is very unsafe and unprofessional. And we simply do not trust him now.

At first he just said that he will take actions as he knows our address. Which looked as he is threatening to smash the windows for example. Now he sent a message that he will send the letter to his solicitor. I am a bit relieved I must say…
