Does this Universal Credit amount sound wrong?

Total amount in UC is £2421.40 a month

Income is £1950 a month, Partner. I’m unemployed as a carer, I get carers allowance

Two kids on higher rates of DLA

Rent is £930

I really, really worry about being overpaid! I wasn’t even aware I could claim it until someone mentioned it at a support group. I am really shocked

Sorry, that should say £2141! Not the other UC figure

It may well be correct.is that a month? Or the first payment which is usually backdated and around 6 weeks worth?

There are different elements which will be broken down in a statement on your UC account

blackrabbitwhiterabbit · 29/08/2024 17:30

Sounds like an awful lot! Was that from a calculator online?

It is monthly, not a backdated amount

Is that included in higher rates of DLA or separate to that?

DLA is a different payment entirely

OP posts:
Vettrianofan · 29/08/2024 17:34

Sounds about right. DH is paid much less than that per month and we get a lot more in UC per month.

Vettrianofan · 29/08/2024 17:34

No it doesn't. Sounds spot on.

Does it include the deduction for wages? What about housing are you renting?

RosaBaby2 · 29/08/2024 17:37

Ignore my last post. It doesn't have your rent amount on there, or deduction for wages.

FryingPanWithJam · 29/08/2024 17:37

RosaBaby2 · 29/08/2024 17:36

Yeah, wage is deducted by about £700ish

That's about right op. My sister has two seriously disabled kids and gets a hefty top up on her uc as well as DLA. One kids gets more than the other. I can ask her now and let you know the exact amount of extra disabled element. Just give me a second.

nextdoorconundrum · 29/08/2024 17:39

Do your children both get the highest rate of DLA/pip ? If so then that element alone is £487.58 per month .. in UC if both then it's doubled . This is why it appears high . But in reality I can imagine looking after 2 severely disabled children is neither cheap nor easy .. on top of that you will get a carers element and as you rent them the appropriate housing allowance for your area . Sounds right to me .

Sprogonthetyne · 29/08/2024 17:39

You'll be getting a few different allowances, you should have

Standard element for couple
Child allowance for 2
Disabled child element x2
Career element
Rent element
Possibly childcare (if applicable, you do t say)

From this they then make deductions,

Equivalent of all careers allowance
55p/£1 of your partners pay, over disregarded (600 ish)

If you read through the payment section, it should have a breakdown of how they got to the figure.

UpsyDaisysarmpit · 29/08/2024 17:40

Look at the section on universal credit login that says 'payments' and it will break it down for you so you can check.
You do get quite a lot for the disabled child element especially if higher rate so it might well be correct. Plus you're a carer. Did they deduct carers allowance as they're meant to. That will mean the amount you are seeing is deducting your carers allowance, and that's about £330 or something taken off.
I get less than this and I have teenagers, one DLA MRC LRM, and one that is on the higher rate of pip but standard mobility. They both have high support needs and I haven't been able to work for a long time. We get about £1250 after what they deduct from DP's pay and they deduct my carer's. Hope that's not too confusing. I know you get a lot more if they're on higher rather than middle or low rate.

PoopedAndScooped · 29/08/2024 17:40

So your partner is employed and gets £1950 a month?

Each childs DLA is £108 a week
So roughly £900 a month

Plus you get care allowance £320 a month

plus £2141

So roughly a month you get £3400
and your partners wages are £1950?

So rough monthly income in total is £5350?

RosaBaby2 · 29/08/2024 17:41

I've confused myself as the screenshot didn't have all information on. It's definitely not too high!

Thank you. I appreciate it. The Disabled child element when both children are on Higher Rate Care is around £900 so I see that’s the bulk of why it seems very high

I am just incredibly nervous of a huge overpayment

WitchyBits · 29/08/2024 17:41

One kid gets DLA at middle rate DLA and one gets High rate. ( both low mobility)

She gets £643.69 disabled rate for one middle and one high. (Ontop of the normal child element). She also works and her wages are deducted

Thanks. Yes, both Higher Rate DLA for both elements. I can see now that’s why it’s high

I was confused but if you deduct that disabled child element, it’s not so confusing if that makes sense. So it adds up clearly when you add that element back on again

UC has its flaws but it’s much better than tax credits were in terms of overpayments, if your DH is employed they’ll be getting his income reported directly through PAYE and if you’ve reported everything else correctly there’s unlikely to be an overpayment

No, the DLA and PIP belongs to the child/young person and is for them.
The Universal credit people deduct the £320ish carers from the Universal credit.

Wow. I need to check im paid correctly then. It seems loads to me.

I'm single get no help with rent as I've got a mortgage. 3 kids one is disabled and I'm a carer.

Standard allowance
£393.45
Children
£621.25
Disabled children
£156.11
Carer
£198.31
Total entitlement before deductions
£1,369.12

DLA is middle care lower mobility so if you are on higher maybe that makes a difference?

You her the lower rate of disabled child allowance because the higher rate is for those with high rate care and mobility. Because your child gets the low rate mobility you get the lower disabled rate of Uc for your disabled child .
