NHS maternity pay

Hello. I wonder if anyone who has been in this position could advise. I am trying to calculate my NHS maternity pay package. I will be entitled to occupational maternity pay given my time in post/earnings. I understand what they pay…but I am confused about this bit of the policy - ‘18 weeks 'half pay', plus SMP (except if this will exceed ‘full pay’)’. In my case, because I only work one day per week in this post, half pay plus SMP would exceed my full pay. So would this mean I just get 18 weeks of half pay without the SMP top up? Thanks!

@Mamaro can you link to an on line version of the policy?

You would get your full pay if half pay plus SMP exceeded full pay. You just can’t earn more than full pay

You’ll still get smp, theyll just adjust (reduce) the omp top up amount to ensure they’re not overpaying you

As far as I'm aware you will get paid up to your full pay rate (as dictated by what you worked in your qualifying weeks) anything over is lost. Basically you'll get the SMP and the OMP will make up the difference. Not 100% sure though I'm awaiting my first mat pay to see!

The policy is discussed here…if you look under the bit that says maternity pay for NHS employees

Yes I understand that completely but I guess what I am asking is whether I don’t get any OMP at all during that 18 week period.

This makes sense! Thank you!
