Universal Credit REALLY NEED ADVICE,

KylieAndBaby01 · 22/08/2024 21:39

Im on universal credit (low income)

My daughter became sick with this really really rare illness, it took years to get diagnosed.

She lost her job because of this and is unable to work, and ive been supporting her. She lives with me.

Were in a difficult situation because

She is not sick enough yet for pip she believes, But also too sick to work. Plus with us waiting for treatment, doctor says with it, theres a chance her health will improve and she will be able to work again

My question is,

Do i tell universal credit she is a non dependant adult? Because she doesnt pay rent and i support her?

And how will this affect my universal credit payment?

right now Universal credit counts her as paying the rent.

Three people on tenancy agreement, 1400 rent, universal credit assumes she pays her share and splits into 3

Thank you

You won't have a non dependent deduction for her since she is on the tenancy agreement as you will be counted as separate households.

She should get sicknotes and make her own claim for UC, if she is not well enough to work then she will be found unfit for work. It doesn't matter if she will improve in the future when she can tell them she is better it will be based on her circumstances now. She will also get some help towards her portion of the rent.

She needs to get advice from CAB or similar on whether or not it is worth applying for PIP for her. PIP is paid whether or not you are in work if you qualify.

Is she one of the three people on the tenancy ? Is she claiming Universal Credit and does this include a housing element? You have said that she doesn't believe that she is sick enough for PIP. It might be worth her speaking to someone from CAB to discuss if they think she might be eligible.

Why do you have two exactly the same posts running at the same time?

No worries, you will likely get similar advice form both.

Yes she is on the tenancy agreement, no she is not claiming universal credit

How old is she?

Definitely get a claim form for PIP. I didn't think I would be eligible for it so did nothing for years. I got awarded straight after my assessment.
