Legitimate loans for bad credit

I have bad credit due to debt accrued when I was with my husband. I have a basic Barclays account so cannot get an overdraft. I had 3 small amount credit cards that I am paying back but missed a payment on one and I missed a payment on another financed item. I am behind on council tax. I have no idea how I am going to buy school uniform and I need a small loan to pay off my council tax and catch up on missed payments. Are there any legitimate loan companies that will lend to someone with really bad credit?

Have you tried step change?

It’s not a company but a charity there to help you organise your debts, and go through your budget. I think they can help you negotiate repayment plans.

@orangeclubsarebest the PP about StepChange is good advice. I understand your asking about borrowing money but give the debt you have sorting it out is essential.
Citizens Advice can also help you, and will look at maximising your income by check your entitlement to benefits.
Please get proper advice before taking on more debt.

Agree with PP. If you are struggling to manage your debts, taking out more debt is not the answer. Seek help from a debt charity like Stepchange mentioned above.

Agree you need advice not to borrow more money. Otherwise you'll likely struggle with debt for years without getting anywhere.

But you must keep up with your council tax as that can get in a mess very quickly.

Can you get second hand uniforms? Have you done a benefit check? Are there any grants available? Do you have any credit on your utility accounts or supermarket points that will free up money to go towards school uniforms? Can the DC grandparents help? No chance of their father buying their school uniforms?

You probably need to stop paying all unsecured credit then seek advice about the best course of action. But without a full picture of your finances, no-one can say.

Start by putting together a comprehensive budget as you'll need this information when you talk to Stepchange.

Can any family help with the school uniform?
