SEN DD UC Claim and my Savings

ThePlumVan · 10/08/2024 09:26

I am the appointee for my SEN DD and manage all her financial affairs including her UC claim.
I have been asked to submit bank statements as part of a review, but she doesn’t have a current account it just goes into my account monthly and forms part of a pool of finance. I work FT and my salary is the bulk of our income.

Will I be asked to identify how I spend it on her ? It just goes towards rent, food, transport, etc. It’s just us 2 and our pets.
They did say I could redact anything not related to her but it’s just mixed so I left it all unredacted.

Also, I have about £10k savings - are they taken into account ?

I’m in a similar situation but my daughter does have her own account and I transfer it over to her in small amounts but not all of it as I save some of it for her. I had to show my bank statements but wasn’t asked about my expenditures. I had to give statement from her savings account which I’m the trustee for . They queried payment she made abroad when we were on holiday as she bought some tickets resents and I then realised I was suppose to let them know we were in France. She gets ESA element so not sure why I needed to let them know she was on holiday with me (& paid for by me).

I had one of those reviews about 3 months ago, had to submit 4 months worth of bank statements

Haven't heard anything since
No changes in my sons UC or DLA amount, no emails or messages on the journal page, no requests for further information.

I have roughly £6k in savings, also work full time, not had any issues.

Ok thanks for replying really appreciate it.

Hopefully they won’t think I’m living off her UC !
Anything to do with her money really stresses me out 🙈

Dsd had to have a bank account in her name (specialist account for learning difficulties) and it all went through the court of protection once she was 21 (they allowed the first 5 year period at 16 to go into her parents account). The paperwork took a long time so if you need to go down this route be aware.

Get separate account set up ASAP
Either her name if can sign
Or yours but keep separate
You can set up additional current account on your bank easily and get all her benefits and outgoings there eg "rent contribution" to you etc
For day to day ds has hyperjar card ccount card linked to the separate current account

I thought I had to open her own account for this purpose when she turned 18, but when it came to it, they said my bank account pays for everything so it’s fine it going in there. No one has suggested it since.

I guess it would be easy to show that 50% of our rent and living expenses easily exceeds her UC payments if I had too.

It s much easier to keep her account separate even in your name. If she gets adult services at all they will assess her income and expenditure. Easier to keep a different account. So just set a separate account now set one in online banking on your bank as new current acvount. Tell uc dwp to pay into that one and have her pay you for household contributions each month.

I had to send in my statements too but didn't get asked anything about them.
Dd does have her own account too but her PIP comes to mine and I transfer to hers as and when.

Sorry - just realised you are asking for UC. She/I don't get UC. That may be different. What I said above was for her financial assessment from adult social services.
