Good morning all,
My 18 year old son left college at the end of June, he is going on to university in September, does anyone know if the child element of UC stops from the date he left college or the end Aug this year?
many thanks

Yes of course it's really easy to get a job when you just left college before going to university. Are you for real?

Plenty of kids seem to manage it. It also helps to build up a bit of money. Starting Uni is expensive, with all sorts of things needing to be bought and first student loan often not paid until course has already started. What's so difficult to understand about kids having summer jobs ? Three of mine were working from 16 around college hours, the other has struggled, so I appreciate it's difficult for some. Uni terms don't start until late September, so that's potentially 3.5 months to work depending when last A'levels were . Bizarre that you think it's not possible !

I'm going to do what the reply on my Journal said. If I've get an overpayment notice I will be seeing my MP and raising this. How is an 18 year old who's just left full time education expected to find a full time job for a few weeks before university. If they make a claim for UC themselves they have to make commitments that they are looking for full time work! It's their summer break after exams and months of revision before going to university and hopefully getting a degree they'll be paying for for years. I'm fuming can you tell....

We will have to disagree my son worked through college but gave it up because of bullying. It knocked his confidence and affected his studies. He's tried finding other work but it's not been successful. If I suffer financially so be it. He's just so excited to get to university.
