Income protection when there’s a gap in medical history

Hi there, I wonder if anyone has direct experience of this particular scenario: I come from a country where there’s no centralised medical records. It just dawned on me that if I was to claim on my IP insurance they’d only be able to check my records going back to when I moved to the U.K. and registered with my first GP over here (that’s over 15 years ago). I’m suddenly worrying that after paying a hefty monthly premium for years, if I ever needed to submit a claim I’d be met with endless “we need more info to be able to assess your claim” - info that I have no hope of retrieving ever! I’ve always been fit and healthy but they’re not gonna take my word for it if suddenly I’m unable to work are they.
So my question is: does anybody know for sure how far back insurance companies want medical records to go?
Any direct experience from foreigners who claimed (or claim assessors!) would be much appreciated.
Thanks
