Where do i stand?..paid a deposit on something but have now changed our mind?

piece of furniture for hall is was just over £200..paid £40 deposit at weekend guy said they ahd 10 coming in and 8 had already been sold, so it wasnt ordering in especially for us.we got home to discover it was deeper than our current unit and now dp is having reservations saying its a bit too footballers wives...the details on back say there may be a charge and it may be the full amount??????????????????? what are my legal rights here????

Normally the deposit would be the charge. I'm assuming that you do not have a written contract with them and you can therefore decide not to buy the furniture but would lose the £40 deposit.

Although depending on the company and how easy it will be to sell on to someone else they may even refund the deposit or let you put it towards another item.

thanks for that, like i say theyd already sold 8 of the 10 theyd ordered in(apparently) so were ordeing anyway..hopefully theyll be nice!
