An ex employer has written to me to say I underpaid tax in 20/21 due to taxable benefits and it was their error so they will make any underpayments and I'm not liable.
I have paid this tax through my tax codes in 22/23 and 23/24.
So my question is what does this mean?

Will I get back what I paid, around £500, or will I be facing another tax code change?

P11D usually covers taxable benefits paid or provided by the employer, things like health insurance, company cars etc.

Are you saying the employer is wrong and that whatever benefits they've reported were already covered in your PAYE tax code?

Hi thank you, from what I understand they weren't paid tax on but I became aware of that in late 2021 and paid it all back.
They've now written to me and said they will be liable for any underpayment. So I just wandering if I am going to get this money back as I've cleared the underpayment myself

You should get it back though I think it will be the end of the tax year and then some before you see the cash.

Thank you, that's what I think they mean too. When they reduced my tax code I was so upset to be losing such an amount of money and to find out it was someone else's error is a bit rubbish!
Thanks for your reply
