Debt collectors chasing ex-p at my address

I need some advice, My ex ran up unpaid speeding and parking fines while living at my address, he left a year ago.
Bailiff company called this week to deliver letters of final demand and even though I told them he didnt live here and have already faxed my proof of residence to them they are still pursuing my address.

I have written them again with copy of my recent council tax bill, his new address and telephone number, and requesting that they acknowledge this and donot continue to chase him here.

I am worried sick i will have bailiffs breaking in and trying to sieze my things.

What more can I do??

Baliffs can't break in unless you have already given them access to the property if I recall correctly.

coppertop · 10/04/2008 16:38

Bailiffs can't usually break in. There's a guide about their powers etc here.

Get in touch with the court/local authority who issued the fines. The demand letters will say who is owed the money. Explain the situation and ask them to call off the bailiffs. Give them ex-p's new address, if you have it.

I was in a similar situation and went straight to the court, who sorted it straight away.

Do you know which court has issued the judgement the baliffs are persuing - you can contact the court maybe?

Wow thanks a lot for all your really quick replies,
Sparks yes I have the name of the court, as they delivered the letters to my house anyway. I will get onto them straight away.
Coppertop, thanks for the link . it does say they cant generally forced entry,The notice delivered says they have power to enter by force to execute a warran from the court.

Phoning the court now.

I phoned the national debt helpline from your link coppertop, they reassured me that the bailiffs could apply for a warrant to enter this address but it would be highly unlikely they would get it if they couldnt prove the person lived here.
the court was closed will call them first thing to try and clear it up.

Im feeling a lot better now.
