Ok i am sorting out ppwork today .
Recently i received a horrible letter from a debt collection agency chasing an unpaid bill.
I genuinly knew nothing of it.
They said they had being trying to trace me for years ! mmm cant imagine how because every other bl*y bill manages to find its way through my door !
Anyway i exercised my rights and did this.

asked for copy statements proving i owed the debt
did not aknowledge that i owed it as was over 6 years old anyway and took advise to do this.

I now see they served me with a default notice !
This was all back in November and they wrote saying they would send statements and expected payment when they did.I havent received the statements. Its really the defaulkt im angry about.
basically they ignored the alleged debt for 6 years and then served me with a default !
Also there is no way i was untracable for all that time-i had mail redirected from the po when we moved and have always been on the voters roll.
Any advise most welcome.
many thanks

register for 30 day free credit report They may be just trying to frighten you, some debt companies buy old debts for a fraction of the original debt

Why would you not pay a debt that you owe?

PABLOP · 15/04/2008 22:13

I would, I do not have any unpaid debts.

The op states she did not know of this debt and has always been on the electoral role

There are a lot of firms out there at present that are buying very old debts for pounds, they then use scare tactics to try to get the money, (this has happened recently to someone I know)
Last year I had a company chasing me for an unpaid debt to Yorkshire Water, it took a lot of phone calls and 2 letters before I recieved an apology as it had transpired that it was the previous owner.
