LCWRA award

Hi all,

We’re on UC as DP collapsed at work and is looking as if he won’t ever work again. In Nov 2023 we were awarded LCW. We appealed in Dec 2023 and today have received a letter to say that on mandatory reconsideration he’s been awarded LCWRA. Qualifying period starts March 2023 with entitlement to payment from June 2023.

We usually get paid on the 10th of every month so will July’s payment include LCWRA or does it usually take longer to get in place/update entitlement?

Also, does anyone know whether the back payment will be made automatically or if it needs to be requested - and how long that will take?

I know these things typically move at the speed of a slug but we’re dying financially and a vague idea of what to expect would be so helpful.

Thank you 😊

Am I reading this correctly that it's taken DWP 6 months to consider a request for Mandatory Reconsideration?

If the decision notice doesn't say what payment arrangement will be I'd ask. It should be asap but there may be a wait for DWP to action it.

@Bromptotoo - yes, six months 😳

I get an increased amount because I’m a carer - that was sent for mandatory reconsideration last year because they refused to backdate it, even though the delay was due to their error. That took over 5 months to get a decision too!

The decision letter doesn’t say anything explicitly, just says he’s now due LCWRA from March 23, payment from June 2023.

I’ve put a note on our journal to ask but it often takes a week or so to get an answer on there and usually that’s “we’ll find out and get back to you” and then they never bloody do….

I was just hoping someone might have some insight into the process.
