Temp Credit Score Worse

Hi,

I've never had any issues with debt or anything in the past. I paid our mortgage off 9 years early! I'm going through a long divorce and, let's just say, two lots of solicitors have fleeced me for money over a 3.5 year period and I have been offered no more than what I'd have got anyway (without the intervention of solicitors). Stbx comes away with a lot more than me due to inheritance and bigger pension. I am unable to go to court due to costs and stress! I have taken over the divorce myself as I can no longer afford to pay a solicitor.

Basically, I have put all solicitor costs on interest free credit cards (never used one before) but now having to pay interest. £15 in total! I'm horrified.

I am also paying £250 a month on a car via PCP. I have had to get another job 90 miles away (to stay in my profession) and stay over once a week and work remotely the rest of the time. I pay all hotel bills and travel costs (hence why I can't afford a solicitor now). I'm being asked to stay over 2 nights every now and then and it's costing me £££.

I'm thinking of changing the car to a van (that I can convert to a micro camper) to save on the hotel bills. But, as my credit score is worse than ever, I'm doubtful a car dealership will give me the finance. Will this be looked at?

Does anyone have any advice as I've got myself in a real sticky situation!!!

House is going up for sale this month and my
plan is to pay off the credit cards with the proceeds of the house sale and buy something smaller.

Old job was doomed. I had no choice but to leave.

  1. Ignore credit score, it doesn't mean anything.
  2. Try and switch the credit cards to more interest free offers. Try the eligibility checkers for info about what you'll likely be approved for, but make sure you actually apply for things. There's a whole industry in giving unhelpful advice about credit and none of it is as useful as actually making an application
  3. If your medium term plan is to sell up, does that mean you can move nearer to work so you don't need to go through with the camper van plan, which isn't practical for many reasons. Even if you can't live very close, can you move somewhere that's a manageable daily commute away?
