Blue light card

My husband has just found out he can apply for a Blue light card. How do we use it as it appears you can get discount everywhere. Any hints or tips? Can we include the teens as friends and family?

I've just saved £60 on a Shark hoover. Plus ai use it regularly in the following:-

White Stuff
Pavers
Clarks
Crew
Fat Face
Seasalt
Perfume Shop

Soditsally · 18/10/2024 05:33

Also

New Look
River Island
Sea salt
Cineworld
Miller and Carter
Hungry Horse
Apple
Sketchers

There are also some ( Superdrug ) who don't take blue light but will give a good discount with an NHS ID card , I just keep an old one in my purse , never been asked for proof of ID with my blue light but as a PP said - I also look like a tired haggard old nurse 😂

lololulu · 18/10/2024 06:52

Yes Superdrug are annoying. I asked why NHS get a discount but my mum (council carer manager) and husband (military) don't.

Just get into the habit of checking the blue light site before you buy anything online

Blue Light card for teachers. I am tearing my hair out trying to contact the organisation behind the Blue Light Card. As a teacher (supply), they've rejected my proof but they've taken my fee (£4.99) from my bank account. I've raised ticket after ticket on the app, and even written a hard copy letter to them, but still nothing. The tickets I've tried to raise don't appear on the app on my phone. I've had an email with a reference number but that email says no replies to the email are possible. It's ridiculous!! Does anyone have any ideas please?

I had the same problem. In the end, I sent a photo of my work ID, which has my initial, surname, school logo and “staff” on it (and wasn’t acceptable on its own) merged (I used the instagram layout app) with a screenshot from the staff list on the school website which shows my full name and job title. I scrolled so that my name was at the top of the list, so the website URL was in the shot.

I have mainly used mine for Peacocks in-store and Skechers. I go to a local Skechers shop, try on their shoes then order online for 20% off. I also get free p&p and loyalty points/money off so a recent pair of £75 boots cost £55.

It's very odd how they work out who is eligible though. I have two people at work who have the same position in the company. One was able to get a Blue Badge card whilst the other wasn't. She's tried twice to resubmit her application but keeps getting turned down. She supplied the same evidence as her colleague. She's give up now.

wonderingwhatlifemeans · 18/10/2024 10:25

I was turned down the first time so resubmitted my wage slip and was accepted the second time. I did a survey with the blue light people and they said they were overwhelmed as they were expecting to slowly put out the teacher invitation but after Mr P put it out on Facebook it literally snowballed and their systems struggled to manage.

Can school staff get a blue light card or only teachers?

All school staff I think

AnotherVice · 19/02/2025 17:01

I mainly use mine for cinema tickets but yes, I also check before ordering anything online now. I've saved loads, especially over Christmas, it usually knocks a tenner or so off most things.

Just try reuploading your proof. It worked for me!

rwalker · 19/02/2025 18:33

There’s absolutely loads all the info and restrictions are very clear on app

there’s such a vast choice very easy to get your £4.99 back

kiwiane · 19/02/2025 19:11

I’ve used it for Halfords and Seasalt and for another bigger purchase of a tool shed; it has paid for itself. Most of the discounts for meals are during the week only.

wizzywig · 19/02/2025 19:12

I find the app annoying as it keeps logging me out

BG2015 · 19/02/2025 19:16

I've just rejoined my gym and used my Blue Light card. £29 usually per month and now it's £23!

Winner.

3rdtimeinflorida · 20/02/2025 14:18

Love mine. Paid for itself many times over. Pooch and Mutt pet food- 31% off but you only get to use it so many times. Urban outfitters, Office etc. Turtle bay Caribbean restaurant 20% off plus because I signed up to their app and input my birthday (to get the the blue light discount) they sent me a £20 voucher on my birthday - didn’t think I’d be able to use both together but they let me! Saved £40 on a family meal out!

As it has become more widely available, then it seems more places are checking for further ID - eg your work pass or a payslip - which was very annoying when they first started doing it without telling people as most people don't tend to carry them about when going out for a meal, but, once you are aware, then it is just a case of remembering.

I mean, the card is only for the one person, so no, others can't use it, other than - for example - if the holder pays for everyone at the table, then the discount applies to the bill (or sometimes just the meals) so, by default, everyone benefits, but your teen couldn't go out without his Dad and use it by himself, it that makes sense ?

They are fine with a photo of your work pass so I just keep that on my phone.
