Travel insurance

We've taken out a single trip policy for our summer holiday.

So far we've only paid a small deposit for the holiday balance is due next week.

Since booking the holiday and taking out the insurance DD has become unwell. Currently we don't have a diagnosis. Shes still fit to travel but is in pain and would need to take rests.

Given this condition has occurred before we've paid the balance for the holiday is it likely the insurance company would refuse to cover us were she to get worse and we cancelled?

What do the terms and conditions say?

tanstaafl · 28/05/2024 19:50

If you think your dd’s condition could be a problem on holiday you need to tell the insurance company before you travel.

it might increase your premium of course but you’ll still be covered.

I would think you’d be covered but you would need to phone and ask. They would either cover her, ask for another payment to adjust the premium or allow you to cancel I would think.

I have Aviva annual multi country travel insurance. I have MS (which they know about) and have recently suffered a potential relapse. I contacted them to tell them and they said they no longer need to know. It can be something I can mention at renewal time

I can't make it out from the t&cs.

It does say you must tell them if your health changes so plan on calling tomorrow.

Just having a panic tonight that because we don't have a diagnosis they might withdraw the cover altogether

You need to let them know about her condition. If she falls ill on holiday they probably won't cover you.

Bignanna · 28/05/2024 19:56

Surely it’s in the wording of your policy. Normally they won’t cover you for undiagnosed conditions, as it’s the unknown, they don’t know what they’re letting themselves in for!

Doubtful, if it’s undiagnosed

I’d assumed OP’s DD has been to a GP and referred for tests for say a heart condition or a Gastro problem.

The insurance company will make a judgement based on what the tests are for.

Babyonemorekiss · 28/05/2024 20:17

Yes sorry we've seen GP and consultant and had numerous tests which have ruled out various more serious things. As yet they haven't been able to pinpoint the actual diagnosis

In every travel insurance I’ve had from different firms All clear, Staysure etc, it states they will offer cover except for undiagnosed conditions.
