What is the best credit card to get?

Looking for one with lots of perks. Will generally use it for big purchases or emergencies and will pay it off in full end of the month if possible.

Tbh if you're not religiously using it perks will be pretty limited, I throw everything on the credit card (and pay in full) as that's how you really build up the perks. If you're just using sporadically the benefits will be pretty small, but maybe something like a cashback card so you're getting something back with each transaction? Amex do a good one and it's much more widely accepted these days, especially if using for big purchases at presumably big outlets.

In past we have done Tesco rewards for days out but moved away when they reduced the bonus ratio, now we do Avios (BA premium Amex for companion voucher) but you'd have to be putting a lot on them to get a worthwhile output.

But re-reading your post don't get any Amex if you're not going to pay off in full, very high interest.

If you're not sure you're not going to pay in full you'll want a card with an interest free period, and that tends to be the perk, they don't tend to be the ones with points etc.

I do what PP said and put everything on my credit card which is paid off every month. This gives me a nice cash back sum each month and a cracking credit score.

It also gives me travel insurance and access to all sorts of discounts in restaurants, cinemas, holidays and more.

Probably worth checking with your bank to see what credit card they offer. You can often get even better benefits if you attach your credit card to your current account.
