So how did this happen ? Credit card scam

hopefully if someone knows the answer to my query it might be useful to others….

Today I got a text from my credit card provider asking me if 3 transactions were mine: a Netflix transaction (mine) and a British Gas one and a ÂŁ132 supermarket transaction. Not mine.

When I rang to sort it out I discovered there were daily online supermarket transactions of between ÂŁ123 - ÂŁ142 that had gone through since last week. The supermarket is not one I use.

Coincidentally, the day after the first transaction went through had to phone the card provider because my card wouldn’t work online and was told it was temporarily blocked due to an error submitting the security verification code I was texted - I was pretty sure I had been accurate - anyway it was quickly unblocked.

I haven’t received any verification code requests for these high value supermarket transactions - how on earth did they get processed?

I honestly can’t work out where someone would get my details from either.

Does anyone know how this would have happened? I can’t usually spend even a fiver online without needing to verify.

No, @GuinnessBird means, Have you checked the transactions manually yourself, e.g. using your banking app?

Yes, logged on when speaking to agent and have checked since to double check the account is blocked.

I know I may sound like a doddery old dear but having had many years working in banking I’m actually pretty savvy on how to keep my data and cards safe. I am totally perplexed how this fraud has been done particularly as I am advised spend was on home delivery grocery shops not consumer products. I can only assume several addresses were used but I have the card and it’s had limited use this month as i spent part of it overseas and I never even take my credit card away, I use a currency card.

Did you shop at Temu?
I had the same with Barclays.
Got message asking if 3 transactions are mine ,called bank, at the same time someone was trying to pay with my card separate transactions from ÂŁ100-ÂŁ300. Thanks God, I didn't have money in that account.

That’s something I’d like to know! It seems the Transactions were alternating between two fulfilment centres not too far apart and about 30 mins from me.

I’ve only shopped at Temu once around Christmas time, a mate kept going about his amazing it was. It wasn’t for me.

Has happened to me several times. Is your card saved on your amazon account? I had access to experian which told me that my email.address was being told online with a paasword and it was my amazon password.

It happened to me across two cards and the only place I had used both was a mazon.

Has the number for the verification code been changed or another added?

I have had 3 instances of dodgy payments on my credit card, over a 30 year spell. 2 were after hiring a car in Spain. In all cases we spotted fairly quickly, money refunded, cards cancelled and new ones issued. I found it frustrating that the card companies did not give any info about what might have happened, so we could be extra cautious in that situation in future. The only advice I could give is to always check card and bank statements.
