Hello,

We have just received the notification we have to move from TC to UC.

We are a little worried about the delay in receiving as hubbys wages cover the bills and our current tax credits we use for food shop. Any advice on when is best to move? Any tips to lessen the stress and impact.

Thanks

Following with interest as we’re in exactly the same boat.

It's really crap 😔

Doesn’t sound like it’s going to go well then! 😔

How is your husband paid? If it's calendar monthly it should be ok but I would try and avoid moving/applying too close to his pay date or it can cause problems.

We chose to apply the day we got tax credits, so in therapy if the money is sorted within a month we'd be ok, and at worst it should be a couple of weeks.
Remember as soon as you apy, your Tax Credits stop.

Have you had to pay the tax credits payment back? I’m asking because on the UC groups I’ve been in they’re saying you should leave 2/3 days either side of the payment otherwise they make you pay it back.

Husband is paid monthly last working day of the month. However time bills are paid it leaves little left to cover us for potentially food shopping etc which we use are tax credits for.

Any recommendations when we should apply?

What date would you ideally like to be paid UC?

Essentially, your UC claim will start on the date you submit your claim and the Assessment Period is a one month rolling period from this date - with any UC award being paid 7 days after your Assessment Period ends.

If you were to apply today, your AP would run from 22nd of one month to 21st of the next month, and UC award would be paid on 29th of each month (or last working day prior to this if bank holiday / weekend).
