Pip and change of circumstances

fluffypooch · 13/05/2024 13:39

I receive pip and I've just received my letter (after 6 months) from the cmht about my care plan and my diagnosis from my psychiatrist assessment and I've been diagnosed with bipolar and eupd. Do I need to tell pip? A friend said I did need to tell them but online it only mentions if I change my address or bank details. Does anyone know what I should do? Thanks

PIP is mostly about how you can/cannot perform the activities under each of the descriptors. While a diagnosis that explains your problems can be helpful it's not essential.

Has your capacity to do stuff around daily living or mobility changed since you were assessed for it?

Be aware that if you ask for a review it can go down as well as up!!

Thank you, I only get the lower daily living part atm and my ability to do things has gotten worse because I'm having to change my meds because nothing seems to be working.

During my PIP appointment, I mentioned I was waiting for an ADHD assessment. They told me to contact them as soon as that had taken place.

Six months later, I was diagnosed with ADHD, phoned the PIP people as requested. They immediately offered another appointment with them in case I now had 'further needs'. Luckily, I'd read up on this and declined, saying nothing had changed in six months apart from now having another label.

In short, yes, let them know. But do not agree to have another appointment with them to assess your needs if nothing has changed.

@OldTinHat my award ends in 2025. Would you not do it still?

I think the usual advice is to leave it until your next review as you will trigger a change in circs and a new assessment etc.

If it ends 2025 you are possibly due a review quite soon anyway as they tend to do them six months in advance.
