Car insurance - parking if you cant park outside your home?

Just moved to a new flat and updating car insurance address, stuck on the question where you keep your car overnight. Ideally I would park on my street but its not always possible. Options for parking are:

  1. the street my flat is located on. (time restrictions, paid meters and slim pickings), or
  2. On a nearby street ( time restrictions but potentially more spaces)
  3. On a street 12 mins walk away (no restrictions, but I am less likely to park here as its further away).

As I have just moved, I won't know until I regularly try to park where is going to be available, plus my work shifts differ each week, so I won't have a regular parking routine.
The further away I park the more the premium goes up. But where should I put down for insurance purposes?

I have called my insurance company and they were no help! They just said 'We cannot advise you where to put down, you have to make that decision yourself'.
I'm concerned that if I put down the street away from home to cover myself, pay a premium and then I end up parking near home and it gets broken into that I wouldn't be covered? Maybe I am overthinking and I should just put where I would ideally LIKE to park if a space should be available.

You're supposed to put where you park most often; and if it's not predictable, the "worst" place that you could park.

I'd go "street away from home". I don't think they'd be fussed if you managed to park closer and got broken into, but if it was the other way round, it'd look like you were trying to avoid the premium and they would probably argue you misrepresented the risk.

We had this dilemma aeons ago when we lived on a busy main road in Watford.

We could park outside the house overnight but single yellows applied from 08:00 to 17:00 and we didn't use the car for work.

Usually we could park round the corner on one side or another of a crossroads but if Watford FC were at home - we were two blocks back from Vicarage Rd - we could end up leaving it half a mile away. Once we lost it for a couple of days as we couldn't remember where we left it when Man U were in town. I had to quarter the locality on my bike until I found it!!

Give them the worst case. If you subsequently find a sweet spot where you can see it from your window let them know.
