How much debt do you carry?

for those of you that are willing to share….

How much non mortgage debt to you carry and is it manageable, or does it keep you awake at night?

None.

for both me and DH the only debt is the mortgage. We’ve worked incredibly hard over the last few years to get here

TulipPower1981 · 30/04/2024 18:15

None just our mortgage. I’ve had student debt in the past and a car loan, new sofa debt and new bed. But all paid off, car loan was 3% so cheap and the others 0% bar the car loan of course!

Wowzel · 30/04/2024 18:18

A lot of credit card debit atm, around 12k between DH and i

ToBeOrNotToBee · 30/04/2024 18:20

Around £500. Ideally I want it down to nothing and I am getting there.
It was £2000 last year.

CadyEastman · 30/04/2024 18:21

These kind of threads always get a lot of responses saying that MNers have none or just a Mortgage but that's definitely not representative of the wider population.

I don't think how much dent you're in is usually the issue, unless it's completely unaffordable, it's how you're planning on paying it back.

ColinRobinsonsFart · 30/04/2024 18:21

None. And mortgage will be paid off before Christmas

We have a credit card but use it sparingly and pay off within the month.

Meadowfinch · 30/04/2024 18:22

Only monthly use of a creditcard, for my job, and a bit of personal expenditure which I pay off each month. Otherwise, just the mortgage.

I don't even have a car loan. I save up gradually, and when my car dies, I buy another for cash, usually a 3 year old car. I NEVER buy anything I can't afford within the next month.

If I can't afford it, I go without.

Alwaysalwayscold · 30/04/2024 18:22

£0

I done even own a CC.

Sanch1 · 30/04/2024 18:22

None, we have credit cards but use it for the protection on higher value purchases and pay off straight away.

SootikinSweep · 30/04/2024 18:27

I have a 0% credit card which I use from time to time because I’m freelance and it helps to tide me over if I want to buy something before being paid. It has about £500 on there atm but I plan to pay it off later in the month. Other than that, no debt.

SootikinSweep · 30/04/2024 18:28

No car loan or mortgage either. Money in savings and pensions. I think Dh and I are really boring.

Whatsitcalled38 · 30/04/2024 18:31

Probably around 5k at a guess. I had to take out a load to be able to leave my abusive ex H. Also had to put things on credit like the fridge and washer.

NeverHeardOfSuchTosh · 30/04/2024 18:31

Absolutely none - retired, mortgage paid off 10 years ago. No credit cards, loans, finance, etc.

Been there, done that, many times, over my life. Now enjoy not having red letters, phone calls, bailiffs, stress.

VibeOnWithMyGalPals · 30/04/2024 18:32

Just the mortgage.

WaitingfortheTardis · 30/04/2024 18:32

Only my student loans, do they count? No idea how much they are though!

GetYourHandOut · 30/04/2024 18:32

Just our mortgage.

DramaAlpaca · 30/04/2024 18:33

None, and mortgage paid off now. Credit card only used for big purchases and paid off immediately.

DH and I have always been on the same page about debt, it makes us both very anxious and we wouldn't sleep at night.

We had a car loan years ago and couldn't wait until it was paid off.

Tristar15 · 30/04/2024 18:33

Mortgage and bank loan that was taken out to buy a car. No other debt.

RandomMess · 30/04/2024 18:34

Circa £30k of 0% interest credit card which I used to pay into my 6.25% mortgage as an overpayment reserve.

£10k cash savings.

It's true how if you have money you can save more money.

ithinkitsdone · 30/04/2024 18:36

Very lucky to have no debt outside of mortgage.
We've a v small amount left on that and could repay it now but as wanting to move been advised to keep paying it as easier to get a remortgage than start afresh.

I had some debts when younger from buying a car and stupidly store cards.

I know how lucky we are.

Baileyqueen · 30/04/2024 18:37

Car loan. I always get a new car every couple of years.

SOSyoucandothis · 30/04/2024 18:38

Probably about 10k. Struggling with it - payment plans etc in place but feel constantly like I'm drowning..

Abusive relationship, court... It's shite.

CadyEastman · 30/04/2024 18:39

Well done @Whatsitcalled38. I hope your life is much better Flowers

Ineffable23 · 30/04/2024 18:40

Another none here. Don't know how representative I am tbh.

Angelof29th · 30/04/2024 18:40

About 5k on 0% card. About 4 more loan repayments (about 1k) before I can tackle the credit card. I built debt up in the days of massive nursery fees, I’ve chipped away since DC went to school, the end is in sight.
