Tracing old private pension company

Hi,
I wonder if anyone has any experience or knowledge in this area, and might be able to offer some advice.
I have been slowly going through the process of sorting through my late husband’s old paperwork, and came across a private pension policy from Cornhill Insurance, which dates from 1989.
My husband was over pension age when he died, and did get a pension from his local government former employer.
He didn’t mention the Cornhill pension and as far as I am aware never received any benefit from it.
I am not sure what happens to these pensions. Could it have been amalgamated with the one from his former employer?
I have found out that Cornhill were taken over by Allianz in 2007. I have been onto the Allianz website to try to make an enquiry, and they don’t even mention private pensions now.
Thank you

Lots of old pension plans have ended up being transferred to Phoenix Life. Might be worth asking them.
