Mortgage with 4 year old CCJ

I am in the process of looking at buying a house with my husband.

Upon checking my Experian, I have recently found out I have a 4 year old ccj on my name. I have a previous abusive ex that took credit out in my name fraudulently and I'm guessing this ccj is a result of that.

My husband has amazing credit and has had a marriage before. We have a really good mortgage broker but I'm so embarrassed, I know I need to mention it. Would this affect us? Has anyone been approved for a mortgage with a a CCJ? Please any advice is welcome, slightly panicking as we are trying to borrow the absolute most we can - we have a healthy deposit of £50-60k 😔

The age of the CCJ is one thing (and whilst 4 years isn’t disappeared off the record it is not 1 month either).

however what’s the CCJ for? Was it satisfied? Does it say “satisfied” on the report? Can you pay it off and/or try to get a notice of correction inserted if you have genuine reason to dispute it? If you really have reason to dispute it there is a court process and form and fee to do so but I’m not sure that’s possible in this case?

We had an old CCJ of a similar age on my husbands credit record when we applied for our mortgage. It was actually not his, it was all a bit complicated and involved someone with the same name and DOB, but we couldn't get it expunged so it was irrelevant that it wasn't his- it was still on his credit record.

Our broker was brilliant and weaved some magic- don't be embarrassed, they see this stuff day in and day out. We were eventually accepted for the mortgage with Nationwide on a decent rate, it all worked out. The only caveat is that this was pre the 2022 Trussenomics fiasco. But I think there will be a way forward for you.

Good luck, I know what a nightmare it is.

I personally haven't defaulted on any account and this reflects my credit report.

The CCJ was registered in March 2020 and is for £800 - I can't see any information regarding if it's satisfied. It says 'discharges'

Honestly I hate him with every part of me, he is trying to ruin my life after 8 years of psychical, mental, financial abuse

Thank you, that gives me so much hope. We have found a house we like, so fingers crossed we will get our mortgage. My credit score is poor because of this but I haven't defaulted on any accounts - I'm just so worried and very embarrassed

@OhYoko who were your mortgage brokers?
