go to moneysaver.com (think that's the site?) to find out the cash isa with the best return and then get the guy who sorted your mortgage to recommend a shares isa. good time to take a punt on shares tbh....spread investment around.

only do shares isa if not planning to touch for at least 5 years.

DaisySteiner · 31/03/2008 10:30

Can't you just transfer it to a different ISA after you've put the money in and 'claimed' the allowance iyswim? If so, just put it somewhere, anywhere, quick!!

Onlyaphase · 31/03/2008 10:31

Cash or shares?

One problem I have found this month is that I wanted to do a self select mini share ISA a couple of weeks ago, but found that by the time I had gone through all the hoops of opening up a share account and sending off all the ID forms I would have been past the deadline. No real help to you, but is there any institution you already have an account with where you can use your ISA allowance for this year? Cash ISAs are relatively easy to transfer anyway.

DaisySteiner · 31/03/2008 10:31

Yes, shares definitely sound good at the moment!

Am not an expert but noticed on the Motley Fool Podcast that a Fidelity fund came up as a good buy if you like stocks & shares ISAs - low fees and is a straight forward tracker. Will look up which fund it was.

barcelonababe · 31/03/2008 10:35

all in shares defo!

RubberDuck · 31/03/2008 10:35

Fidelty Moneybuilder UK Index, apparently.

What you need to look at (according to podcast) is the TER - Total Expense Ratio (you want a low number).
