Hi all!

Quick background: My partner and I have 2 kids, have been together 6 years. He has properties in his name (family business/properties). I do not. Would I be considered a first time buyer?

We are not legally married.

Thank you!

Yes you'd be considered a first time buyer

Yes you are, but obviously if he was going to be involved in the purchase in any way then you would lose your first time buyer status.

Regardless of the question you have asked, I would definitely save up and put a deposit down on a property in your name. You are not married. You have no assets. Get some, in your name.

If you are buying in your name only then yes, you are a first time buyer.

If you’re using a first time buyer Lifetime ISA, you’re allowed to use YOUR ISA allocation for your portion of the purchase, even if buying jointly with someone who already owns property.

That’s the plan! My partner is supportive of this, and eventually we will build something together too ☺️
