The government will take most of their statement pension and pay this towards the care home. Family may be asked to contribute but under no obligation to.

thanks hopefully it won't get that far. I have been working in a home for dementia for years I know how difficult it is to care for someone she has the family going around most days I'm just waiting until she gets difficult I have issues with her does not get on with me at all used the kids against me now they are older one is 16 not far off but they have problems with me not her it is going to be very odd for me to be with her with what they have been like towards me I guess this happens with a lot of families at odds with one another I just let sil sort out the forms she managed to get careers allowance I feel I should be on disability got autoimmune health conditions which is not visible to other people as yet will be when I am older Really worried about losing my home still paying a few years yet

Social Services will pay but only for a home that falls within their pay cap, so family won’t have free choice of home.

Chatonette · 12/04/2024 12:46

Adult Social Care will fund it. As PP said, you will not get to choose the home. It will be in a home that they have ‘agreed rates’ with.

YES absolutely. A relative has gone into a care home which isn't 'approved' as it's above the price cap. I'm dreading having to get them moved which will have to be done. The bloody solicitor arranged the over expensive care home!

Are they ones where you have to share facilities etc.
Do you get your own room and bathroom?

I worked in a care home. The smallest rooms were for council funded residents. They had a sink but used shared bathroom for washing, They tended to bring a commode into the room for toileting.

My mum’s takes social services funded and she has her own bedroom and en-suite with toilet and basin. Showers and bathrooms are separate and shared - I think that’s about safety though, so that staff supervise.

I know social services funded homes have a bad reputation but mum’s is fine. Not as fancy as some of the others we saw, but quality of care is good.

my home where i am working in is £1300 a week. shocking how can people on low pay afford care

Re bathrooms - mum was in a nice BUPA home and she had no shower or bath in her ensuite- per pp I think that’s for safety as they need supervision
