Carers allowance need help with what my earnings are?

Hello,

Just looking for advice I have read the carer's website and gov, but still am a bit confused about deductions from employment.

I am employed and get a monthly payment, do carer's allowance consider gross or net pay as I am below the tax threshold there are no deductions for tax and NI, but I am with a pension scheme with employer and there are deductions there every month. So what I receive as my net pay is that what carer's allowance will take into account?

Because I have read that if you put money into a pension such as £20 then carer's will deductions £10 from earnings.

But i have deduction from my gross pay for the pension stated on my payslips, so will they only consider half or the full amount I am confused?
Surely it should be the net pay as that is what I am receiving in the bank.

Please could someone help

Its not a separate pension, the employer that I work for a primary school I am enrolled on a pension scheme (occupational scheme) so deductions are made directly from gross pay every month.

E.g. my gross pay (fixed hours) is £418 a month. There is a deduction of £23.14 for pension scheme so net pay is £394.86

OR will they only consider half of the pension deduction so £11.57 and so my earnings are £406.43 instead of £394.86?

I think your monthly pay is quite a bit under the earnings threshold for CA anyway, so any deductions are irrelevant

@OhWifey
Thank you for your reply, I know it's way below the threshold but I just would like clarification with regards to the pension deduction?

When I called to ask about carers allowance and gave my employment earning information the advisor did ask if there are any deductions in the pay including pension.
But wasn't explained if they will consider my net earnings or half of the pension deduction from gross pay. It's ideal to know this as when doing overtime I need to ensure that I don't cross the threshold so if pension deduction is considered it may help but would like to know if they will consider half (50%) or full deduction from my gross pay.

It’s my understanding that you can earn £650 per calendar month gross, or £600 net.
They allow £50 for deductions like pension and tax.

But, honestly, the best people to ask are DWP. The carers allowance people don’t have long wait times. Just phone them and get the info direct from the horses mouth.

It's 50% deduction of pension from pay, after tax/NI. It is not the net pay amount, because some people can make large payments into their pensions before it reaches their bank account and that is the net pay amount, but DWP will still only take 50% pension contributions into account. They do take childcare and other care costs into account too.

If you are paying tax & NI then you aren't qualifying so it doesn't matter. for mine i just make sure my net earnings plus half my pension don't take me over, as thats the only deduction i have

@herniun
Thank you for your reply and for the link. I had a look at this.

@Outnumbered99
thank you for your reply & for clarification. I am similar in that I also don't have NI & tax deductions as the pay from employer (midday assistant) is low, but do have a pension with work but yes after going through everything it's 50% of pension contribution not the whole amount for the month. For me it's a small pension contribution but still very important as with this pension I am below the threshold limit for the week. Hopefully, it should be fine. Thank you x
