I suppose I'm asking whether I need to do anything in particular - thanks!

In Scotland you can pay a solicitor 200 to discharge the standard security from the deeds. Or do it as part of the eventual sale process.

We got our deeds back in the mid noughties when we re-mortgaged.

They're no longer required by lenders etc where title is registered.

My parents spent the next month;s mortgage payment on a weekend away in a fancy hotel. I was about 12.

Then they saved the payments to put a deposit on a BTL.

That helped them to both retire at 55.

I plan to try and do exactly the same when we pay ours off. (Not for a few years yet).
