SSP/Universal credit

Hi,

I am currently off sick from work due to quite severe mental health issues. I received a sick note from the doctor starting the 14th of March and I am hoping to return to work mid/late April. I currently receive universal credit on top of my wages and I also pay childcare. My child has still been attending childcare during this time to keep normality for him. Even if he wasn’t going, I would still have to make payment to keep his place.

Does anyone know if I have to notify universal credit that I am currently off sick and will be receiving SSP? Do they need a copy of my sick note? Also will they still cover part of my childcare costs? I have tried to call them today to check but gave up after being on hold for over an hour.

Any advice would be great, thanks in advance.

You report it your UC journal

Hi OP, to my knowledge yes I think you do have to let them know you are currently signed off sick and receiving SSP. They should still pay towards your childcare yes because while off sick/in receipt of SSP you are still classed as being “in work”.
