PREMIUM BONDS. APRIL 2024

Blondeshavemorefun · 01/04/2024 15:09

New thread and I've been asked to give some basic info. Feel free to add stuff

Each bond is £1. You have to buy in minimum of £25 so means 25 chances to win.

Bonds have to be in for a clear month before going into the draw

If you want to cash bonds in then usually takes 3 days to go into your account

Winnings can be reinvested if holdings are under £50k

Or sent to named bank account if over /want winnings in bank account

More info here

www.moneyhelper.org.uk/en/savings/types-of-savings/premium-bonds

The best time to buy premium bonds is on the last day of the month, as this means they are only held by NSI for one month and one day, without being entered into the prize draw.

PB to me is the fun and thrill each month of what if I win big and a millionaire - to a day or two later being grateful if win £25😂

I have nowhere near the maximum and probably never will unless I win £50k + on pb

But only takes one £1 to win that million !!!

I love seeing the low holdings win high amounts

Maximum is £50k per person so some do have all for family- mum dad and 2 kids so £200k etx

Those on the thread are varying from few hundred /thousand - to 20/30k to full holdings of £50k

Everyone is welcome to join in whether small or full holdings

One would expect if had full holdings of £50k to win something every month and think over the year to earn the same as if in a high interest account to win around £1860 in prizes

From google (august 2023) - The consistent winners are the 1.16 million people who have the maximum £50,000.

They hold almost half of all premium bonds and, at current odds of 21,000:1, can expect a monthly stream of tax-free prizes: two a month and three almost every other month, 28 or 29 a year totaling £1,860

From google (Jan 2024) Tho equally With Premium Bonds, for every person who wins £1 million, a lot of people have to win nothing. So the median average will always be lower than the mean average.

This means that, with average luck, most people will win less than the prize rate each year, regardless of how many bonds they hold

But many on here do have £50k and then consider moving it to an account that pays 5/6% if their bonds aren't doing very well as would then def get extra money

But remember savings /interest get taxed

PB and their winnings don't

So they do dither whether to pull out from pb and put in high interest account if not winning anything

If you have PB but not sure if you have ever won esp if moved about a lot

you can write to NS&I. Include these details in the letter:

	Current name

	Current address

	Premium Bond holder number

All previous addresses where you might have registered bonds

	Your signature

You can send your letter to:

NS&I,
Sunderland
SR43 2SB.

There are 3 apps afaik

Cream - prize checker and if won previous month will show a pic - which we all get excited over 😂😂😂

White - main one with info 😄😄😄

Blue - those who reinvest their winnings say it shows if won the day before app shows 🙀🙀🙀

But I won last month and didn't show anything the day before so not sure it shows for all

Now this has been debated on MANY times but seems to be correct

When do we find out

Last day of working month - Millionaire knock /call

First day of working month - list showing all winners million to £1k winners - which I always put up for those who can't find it

Second working day of month - cream app showing all winnings

Hopefully I've covered everything

Good luck one and all 😄

I haven't won anything so far. I have decent sum invested. I do buy PBs via standing order in the middle of the month. I tried buying in lump sums and now buying bonds monthly with little amount. Wondering whether I should buy bonds at the end of the month. I've been really unlucky.

Bimblesalong · 01/05/2024 22:34

£100 + £50 now pending.

mrsbyers · 01/05/2024 22:35

I save monthly into mine and then when it gets to £20k withdraw for ISA and save up again

cantwait4orsummer · 01/05/2024 22:35

Congratulations to those with pending amounts and @Jellybean85

Oh sorry another question..
Is it more beneficial to put money in monthly or can I put a lump sum in and just leave it?

The more you put in the more chances you have

Each bond is £1 so £50k would be 50 000 chances of winning

So put the max in you can afford or too it up as and when

Yes but the day before the end of the month is best

As Need a whole clear month before
Entering

If you buy in the middle that's 2 mths later. I think

I'm just wondering. If, say, you win the 1 million (or another high amount) would you see this in your account online? Or would you only find out once Agent Million turns up on your doorstep that you've won? Maybe that's just old school. I don't know anymore! What if you aren't home, don't answer the door as you think it's a sales person, etc etc!

Does Agent Million only visit if you win the jackpot? Or for other high amounts?

I'm sure they did turn up out of the blue years ago to inform you of your win, but in these days of text messages and online accounts, I don't know!

Sprocketty · 01/05/2024 22:45

£250 now showing in pending for me.

I was starting to think I was out of luck. Haven't won anything since January on nearly full holdings.

Rhumba · 01/05/2024 22:48

£50 pending. Was getting my hopes up yesterday. Now delighted with that!

Pozz · 01/05/2024 22:52

@Blondeshavemorefun thank you

Just wondering about the posters winning today - do you have large/full holdings?

If you have full holdings would you expect to win more or less every month?

WhyDoesItAlways · 01/05/2024 22:53

£100 pending for DS. Not bad for his first month on modest holdings.

Nothing for me (yet)!

Feelingstrange2 · 01/05/2024 22:58

@Cheshiresun high value wins wont show as pending because they send you a letter to advise you of the win and ask you what you want to do with it.

They only action the win when the paperwork is returned.

Sprocketty · 01/05/2024 22:58

@Pozz I would normally win an average £100+/month on close to full holdings.

The last three months I got nothing but in January got £1000 so I guess it averaged out.

Compsearch · 01/05/2024 23:07

Nothing for me this month on just over £10k. Bit disappointing but I did win £50-£100 the last 3 months so can’t really complain!

Yes the law of average if have full amount of £50k you should win every month and think 28 prizes a year averaging with around £1800 I think in winnings a year tax free

Saying that. I have a low amount and usually win most months £25 tho last month won a £500 prize

And prob have run my luck of it this year so won't win this month

And some with £50k don't win for months hence why they consider moving to a 5% interest account

Exactly what I was about to post. Although we are on month 4.

When checking the spreadsheet I saw someone with £5k win on a £200 holding within first couple of months of holding. I need that luck!!

CaveMum · 01/05/2024 23:09

And here we are in the Witching Hour - that monthly dilemma of being too tired to want to stay up, but too excited to want to wait till morning to find out!

@Pozz yes statistically on full holdings you “should” win something every month - the odds of winning £25 are around 1 in 27,000 so if you have £50,000 invested you should get something. We’ve had full holdings since October last year and have won every month, with winnings varying between £125 and £300.

Pozz · 01/05/2024 23:12

Thank you that's interesting to hear. Makes me want to save more!

Are these the two apps you're talking about? I have the top one and it's never shown anything early.

Does the darker one show it earlier do you think?

PREMIUM BONDS. APRIL 2024
VanGoghsDog · 01/05/2024 23:22

Btw, I have just over a half holding and I do seem to win most months, 10/12 I reckon. I put in a half holding in 2020 and the increase is the reinvestment.

Pozz · 01/05/2024 23:22

Thank you to everyone who replied to my questions. I would like to invest more but there's always something to pay for!

Saying that, I do have a standing order and invest £150 every month so it's slowly building, but will take years at this rate!

I've said before I'm hanging out for a big win on relatively small holdings! 😆

SoEmbarrassed2024 · 01/05/2024 23:35

Blimey, someone had a £100 holding from March 23 and win 100k. Lucky them!

TerriPie · 01/05/2024 23:38

Website has updated, bugger all for me on nearly FH 😡🤬

medianewbie · 01/05/2024 23:42

.

recklessgran · 01/05/2024 23:43

OMG!!!! £10,100 for DH and £100 for me. Shocked to the core. Good luck everyone. We're just sitting here looking and feeling incredulous.
