Pip case manager

itsmee12 · 28/03/2024 12:30

Hi all iv just had a phone call from a case manager from my pip mandatory reconsideration. She mention about more evidence and asked a few more questions what was fine. She then asked me if I had recently been in jail or been in hospital over night and if I could handle a cash sum of money in my account If I was awarded.. this has really weirded me out has anyone had these questions before or know anything of the outcome? Thank you xx

In jail or outwith UK or in hospital (or custody!) can affect your eligibility.

As to the last one I don't know. I've met a lot of people legally unable to handle their finances who are certain they're fine!!

Babyroobs · 28/03/2024 13:25

It's normal to ask this. PIP would not be paid if you have been in hospital for more than 28 days recently. Many people could not handle a lump sum of money. Back pay for PIP can run into thousands depending how long people have been waiting for a decision so they are just checking to see if you can deal with that. For example someone with Bi-polar who went on manic spending sprees when manic could blow the whole lot and would likely prefer it paid in smaller amounts. Huge amounts of people are making PIP claims for mental health.

JMW2024 · 28/03/2024 13:34

I had exactly the same phone call when mine was going through them - I was awarded £20,000 back pay and ongoing PIP ..... I think they have to ask about the lump sum due to some people not being able to manage their own finances and having assistance

itsmee12 · 29/03/2024 12:20

Thank you for your responses, if I have been awarded from my mandatory reconsideration will I receive a text or just the letter in the post, do they still send the letters and texts out over the holidays as it Good Friday then holiday Monday? I haven't heard nothing since my phone call x

OP posts:
JMW2024 · 29/03/2024 13:55

I received the letter in the post saying it had been successful and with the backdated amount and then the new amounts and dates going forwards; no text I don't think.
Then I received another letter with just the details of the yearly amounts titled - award letter. Which comes every year.

I don't think anything comes out over bank holidays.

I didn't hear anything for about a week after my phone call until the letter arrived.

itsmee12 · 29/03/2024 14:16

I just feel so nervous waiting for the decision, I have people telling me different things like the questions they've asked usually means you've been excepted then others said they ask them questions to everyone who speaks to a case manager. X

OP posts:
AutumnFroglets · 29/03/2024 14:21

and if I could handle a cash sum of money in my account If I was awarded..
That would depend on what you've put on your form. If you are eligible for PIP for physical illnesses then you will have the capability to do online banking etc, if you put on your form you need help with understanding forms or speaking to others etc then they need to make sure you feel competent to handle a large sum of money.

Congratulations on being awarded!

itsmee12 · 29/03/2024 14:42

Yeah I did say I could handle cash an things I don't have a problem with money, the questions just seemed weird to me, when should I receive a letter if iv been excepted due to the holidays? Or do you get a payment first if you have x

OP posts:
AutumnFroglets · 29/03/2024 14:51

No idea about the letter tbh. It would depend on the person typing it up, the person delivering to Royal mail, on royal mails delivery pattern for your area and all sorting offices in between and if your postie isn't ill and there's no replacement...and if all the planets line up and don't have planetary covid😂

It's one of those don't expect it and then you will have a nice surprise as opposed to being disappointed type things. It's a government department and they are sloooow.

JMW2024 · 29/03/2024 14:54

@itsmee12

With mine I had the letter first then the payment.

You use to be able to call the PIP automated helpline and it asked you to tap your details in and then it told you when your next payment was due (if you had been awarded) so people were able to find out before the letters had come

Not sure if you can still do that now - as I don't need to check anymore

itsmee12 · 29/03/2024 14:54

With the lack of delivery's iv had not turning up I'll be waiting a while then😂, just the waiting game I suppose.

OP posts:
itsmee12 · 29/03/2024 14:55

Do you know the number for the automated one and the option numbers at all? Thanks x

One of the PIP descriptors is ability to manage money. However this is about issuing a back payment.

First they need to establish if you have had any days in hospital during the backdated time period, as a pp said it affects entitlement if you have. The second question is also what pp said, they have to check whether you can handle a lump sum and not spend it or be subject to financial abuse. DWP often offer to pay it in staggered lump sums if there is evidence that someone is vulnerable.

It would appear that you have an award but calculation of money owed is being verified and completed. If they release the payment at the same time as issuing the decision notice the money could go into your account before you receive a letter.

itsmee12 · 29/03/2024 15:17

Yeah thank you I understand, I never stated I had any money problems or situations that's why I didn't understand why it was mentioned. Some people have said they only ask if you can handle a sum of cash is when it's over £2000 but I don't think my claim is even owed that much even if I was excepted, thank you for your replies I will update on the outcome once I hear anything x

OP posts:
onestepfromgrace · 29/03/2024 16:13

Depends how long the backdate is, 12 weeks enhanced rate of both would be more than £2k

itsmee12 · 29/03/2024 16:15

I first started the claim in October last years I don't understand how it all works. do you have to get daily to get the mobility or could you get it separate? I have literally no clue how it works x

You can be awarded either or both

I think given the bank holiday you are more likely to see a payment in the bank before a letter shows up - I hope it's good news

itsmee12 · 29/03/2024 16:20

Oh right ok thank you for your response. I'll let you know on the outcome thanks all the best xx

OP posts:
onestepfromgrace · 29/03/2024 20:35

Taking the end of October as your claim date 6 months backdate could be a substantial sum. assuming an award the least you can receive is standard mobility which would still be a £700 backdate. The most would be enhanced both which would be nearer £4500 backdate.

PIP is paid for 2 components at 2 rates. Daily Living which is self care and Mobility which is walking / getting around outdoors. Then either standard or enhanced, depending on how many points you score. 8 for standard 12 for enhanced. You can receive a combination, one component but not the other, or one standard, one enhanced, both enhanced, or both standard.

Good Luck

Thank you, I'm not sure if I have even been awarded I haven't heard nothing since the phone call. With it been the holidays I think it's just put extra time on the decision maybe? I have a few people saying it sounds like iv been awarded but just by a few questions how would they know x

Morning all, just a quick update. I phoned them this morning to ask for an update and she said I got delicned on the 15th of march. I don’t understand as I only had a phone call Thursday with a case manager for more evidence after all the questions she asked me. Does this sound normal. Why ask me more questions If iv already been declined? Thanks

Maybe the original decision was made on15th march, case manager was checking they agreed with the decision, decided a few more questions were needed and then came to the same conclusion. To be honest only about 15% of MR's are successful.

Hopebridge · 03/04/2024 10:48

Did they contact your GP or specialist with the MR for evidence? You can appeal if it's been declined.
