I started last month and it's going really well.

Are there others on here that do it?

If it’s working for you that’s good. I am the opposite, we pay for everything on credit cards and have for years. We earn points, vouchers and also Cashback. It has meant many days out when children were little were paid with vouchers. Off top of my head 3 x sealife centre, Legoland, x4 a local wildlife place, 4x West Midlands safari park, Black Country living museum. Also ferry fares paid to the Isle of Wight a few times and magazine subs. With DH air-miles we had a few nights in hotels and car hire on holiday. You do have to be massively disciplined and pay the card in full every month. So we never view it as a credit card we view it as a debit card.

@Ilovemyshed that's lovely for you but I'm not sure why you (and the other non cash stuffers that have commented on this thread) are here. I asked if there was any cash stuffers on here? Instead I've had the likes of yourself talking about how you don't do it and talking about interest 🤦🏻‍♀️ interest is useless if you spend every penny in your bank account because you don't see numbers on a screen as money 🫠

Seems a waste of the interest rates at the moment, I transfer all my money into savings accounts to get 4% on it, it also feels better protected than being sat in a current account (or cash!) I do the management aspects of it on spreadsheet.

Interest means nothing to me. Money doesn't stay in my account long enough to gain interest 🤔

First month completed and I saved £230! I'm so impressed. I can't remember the last time I did this! Now on to month 2, keeping notes to ensure I learn from mistakes each month!

That's brilliant 🤩

@bingoringo4 sorry didn't mean to be unhelpful, I'm just a big fan of making money work harder, like a pp I use credit cards for loyalty points (and S75) so the "cash" sits in savings accounts building interest until the bill is due despite being "spent".

I suppose if you're trying to "retrain" yourself to budget better it's a good option in the short term, but it's costing you money in the long run. You can apply a similar approach to Chase and gain 1% cash back in spending and 4% interest in savings before money is spent. I wouldn't have known about these things if it wasn't for internet forums, just want to share the knowledge!

@wpalfhal I get what you are trying to say but some of us have brains that can't compute the abstract. Or brains that cannot retain figures. We need things in our hands to visually "get it". I can't even use satnav, I need a proper map, for instance. My mental maths is atrocious but give me pen and paper and I'm pretty fast at it.

OP, I used to do this when I first left home as I was paid weekly but rent was monthly and bills were quarterly. It was very difficult to budget. Since most things are online nowadays we are getting horribly in debt so once the divorce is through I will be going back to it. It will be nice to have savings again.

@Pixiedust1234 thanks for explaining, sorry I genuinely didn't mean to be unhelpful.

I do. I get paid a lot of cash in hand and once I get to 100 pounds it goes into an envelope and hidden somewhere in my house. Once I get to a grand or two I take it into the bank and pop in my account.
I'm a money worrier and it just makes me feel in control I suppose. Love to count it too!!
I don't enough to pay tax so everything is above board in that area and all my accounts up to date so no worries there.

I think OP is talking about a different kind of cash stuffing—taking out cash for the week’s or month’s expenses and separating it out into budget envelopes labelled Groceries, Beauty, Meals Out, Petrol, etc. once the weekly/monthly amount in each specific envelope is gone, that’s it until the next pay cycle.
