Is this a scam?

I received a note through the door from Royal Mail who had tried to deliver a package with insufficient postage, asking me to collect the item and pay the postage due. I haven't ordered anything recently and I've asked around friends and family and no one has sent anything. What would you do?

If you have to go to a delivery office to pick it up and pay when you get there, then I don't see how it can be a scam. If it's got a link for you to pay online, then I would be wary.

Well it's not a text and you're not clicking on anything.
So go to the depot and see.
They don't usually just pop out to post random notes ..

LetsBePositive10 · 24/03/2024 10:15

I got one yesterday - it was definitely delivered by my usual postman.

Nicebloomers · 24/03/2024 10:17

Somebody probably posted a letter to you (Easter card?) with an old style stamp not QR code new stamp and they’re not valid anymore.

It's not a scam. Someone has sent you a mail item (could be anything) and not paid the correct postage. The note isn't random; it's sent out for delivery as part of the postman's normal route.

When you go to the delivery office (remember to take photo ID) you can decide whether or not you want the item. (It's not unknown for companies to send out brochures with insufficient postage, and you probably won't want to pay to read their advertising.)

I have had this once, I did pay at the office and collect it. Turned out it was a drawing from my friends DD so very sweet but a bit of a PITA. She is in her early twenties now and still a very lovely person.

Hoppinggreen · 24/03/2024 10:23

If you need to collect it from the Sorting offic eor similar then its not a scam. You can ask to see the item before deciding whether to pay the additional postage or not

It's not a scam but it's a pita. Last one I had my friend had been sold counterfeit stamps.

Who knew such a thing existed!

GinForBreakfast · 24/03/2024 10:57

@Nicebloomers I know. They were exceptionally good fakes. The way you can tell is that the QR bit is textured on the real things but smooth on the fakes.

She got them from her Tesco delivery!
