I’ve booked a uk cottage break through a 3rd party booking site, it was pricy but I figured prices have gone up etc. My mum asked where we are going & wanted to look it up & found the website- seems it would have cost me over £300 cheaper to book direct! In hindsight I should of just cancelled on the 3rd party site and re-booked direct, instead I sent the cottage owner a note through the 3rd party site and asked if I could cancel and re-book direct as pennies are tight etc and they said they cant allow me to do that as the 3rd party sight are entitled to their commission for introducing me. I've realised they probably have to say that as as we've messaged through the platform- Q to you is, would you cancel anyway (I can cancel free up until 10 days before travel) and then try to rebook, or do you think they would refuse my booking? I wish I hadn't messaged to ask now & just done it. Every penny saved would be incredibly helpful to me right now and it pains me a bit when I know the extra money is just going as commission and not even to the cottage owners. Lesson learned for the future either way.
