Leaving work to care for DH on UC

Has anyone had to leave work to care for someone full time?
If so and if already claiming UC and have carers element how is UC affected?
Do you receive 'total entitlement before deductions'?

I'm struggling to get my head around this & it's a very real situation that I will have to leave employment.

Yes you would just have the total of your elements with no deductions. You could claim carers allowance separately as that would credit you with a better class of NI contributions but you won't be any better off by claiming it as it is deducted in full from UC. Is your husband getting the LCWRA element on your claim?

What is the LCWRA?

What is the LCWRA?

It is the Limited capability for work and work related activity element that many ill and disabled people get on a UC claim after they have undergone a work capability assessment and been found not fit for work. It is around an extra £390 a month and will show on your Uc statement.

You won't be affected by the benefit cap. Some nhs dentistry and eye test become free for you.

Does your dh get PIP?

He must be getting a disability benefit as op says she has the carers element on the claim.

NotmySundaybest · 21/03/2024 09:26

Yes he gets PIP.

@Babyroobs yep, my mistake. Should not answer threads when not so well. Brain fog.
