Deprivation of Capital

Long story short, me and my partner are separating. We currently have a mortgage on a house which we will have to sell. I will have to use all of the money from the sale to use as a deposit in order for me and my young son to get an affordable house (even still finances will be incredibly tight). I currently have around 17000 in savings but I’m going to have to use a large amount of that money for the house move, buying furniture, moving fees etc… would this count as deprivation of capital if I was to apply for universal credit.

No it's unlikely that it would. Just keep invoices and receipts so you can prove it's been spent on essential moving and housing costs.

Reasonable spending is fine. Obviously buying top range furniture that is unnecessary could be seen as doc .

I assume that you mean half the equity in the house - as the other half will go to your ex?

Yes sorry, I meant half of the equity will go to me. I will then use all of that money for a deposit.
