have a debt with water for £1024... have now ccj against me for this, baliffs have been round... and added £900 of costs on top of debt, i have offered sherforce enforement agency £1024 if i dont have to pay any costs... but they wont accept it... and i am stuck i dont know what to do.... they say they are filing for bancruptcy against me, - i am not sure what this means...

Can i go and pay the debt at the county court?

Will anglia water accept the £1024 from me to settle the bill with them or do i have to deal with the debt agency?

any advise gratfully recived

did you start to pay the ccj?

the bailiffs costs may be unreasonable and you can go back to court to argue with them.

You could apply to have the judgement set aside - all online.

chocolatespiders, the bailiffs will try and add on allsorts of unlawful costs and tell you many different lies to try and get you to pay.

You are quite right to seek advice, I dont know offhand what charges the bailiffs can legally add on to this debt but chances are its only something like 1/10th of what they are trying to get you to pay!

Whatever you do, do not let the bailiffs inside your house, if you refuse them access they cannot do anything (but will threaten allsorts!).

If you have the £1024.00 in cash, I would personally take it in to Anglian Water's offices and hand it over to them (make sure you get a receipt). I doubt very much that they will turn away cash like this (although they may tell you on the phone that they would!) Then you can ring the bailiffs, tell them that you've paid Anglian Water directly and offer to pay the lawful charges direct to them.

Hope you get it sorted x

How did you get to the position of owing so much?
You don't have to pay cash in full to them whatever, and they are not allowed to cut you off, whatever they mey threaten you with.

chocolatespiders · 27/03/2008 12:55

I know they cant cut me off but i just want to clear the debt. without having to pay the costs( i dont mind paying the court costs but i dont wish to pay the baliffs costs

you should apply straight away to get the court judgment payable by instalments

go down to the county court office and fill out a form, maybe there is a fee to pay but if you get benefits or tax credit you may be fee exempt,so take proof.

iheartdusty · 28/03/2008 14:35

the other thing to consider applying for at court is an administration order

if you get one and stick to it, the court might even be able to write off some of the debt.

there is info about it on that very helpful link that Lauriefairycake posted

chocolatespiders · 28/03/2008 22:10

thanks

I do want to pay the whole ammount... to get it seen as settled on my credit record...

i have written to the court, so hopefully i will hear from them soon
