Any point moving to UC?

Currently receive CTC, which is ending the end of this month and I'm being asked to move to UC.

I only receive a small amount, which is the disability element. The child I receive the element for won't receive it from august when he turns 19.

Is there any point of going through the hassle of applying for UC, and doing the admin every month, just for a few months? Whilst the money will be missed, it'll be ending in august anyway. I already have a hectic life and it's just another stressor.

Also, I receive CB, is that separate to UC, or would that be included in it?

Do you work?

DO you pay rent?

I do work and have a mortgage. When I started claiming CTC my circumstances were very different, and it's continued to roll on over the years.

Because of the way you are treated in work, at least while your son is under 19, a work allowance lets you keep some earnings before benefit starts to be tapered and a more generous taper may mean you get more than on CTC.

Try one of the on line tools like turn2us or entitledto or call Help to Claim on 0800 144 844 and see what they say.

Making and managing a claim on line is not as onerous as the media etc would have you believe.

uc is actually really simple and not a lot of admin as people would claim.

That.

Exactly.

Thank you. I'll have a look then. I'm only going off what a couple of friends have said and they make it sound tedious.

Will try one of the calculator websites.

Put it this way- the only interaction i have with UC is uploading my childcare costs once a month and my rent costs in April. I’ve never been to a job centre and HMRC updates every month so your UC is auto adjusted avoiding any overpayments at the end of the year like with tax credits
