Family member doesnt want inheritance money but wants to pass to our brother, how to go about this?

In a nutshell DSis doesn't want an inheritance from sale of late father's house (in Will), she wants to pass her share on to our brother who lived there and cared for him as he needs to get a property. I will do similar - give him some of my share but not all as I have dependents still whereas my sister doesn't.

So how does she go about this, is it a renunciation documented via a solicitor?
She is also on PIP due to an illness that left her unable to work etc. does she need to let the social care/benefits know about this?

Contact a solicitor to draw up a deed of variation.

If she is on means tested benefits ( not PIP) then it’d be seen as deprivation of assets and they could assess her as if she still had the money. I’d check it out before you do deed of variation.

Pip isn't means tested. But as I understand it if she's on means tested benefits this would be seen as a deprivation of assets and could mean loosing benefits. She needs to seek some clarification as this could cause her to loose her benefits.

Ah ok I best get her to check this all out.

PIP is not means tested. It's nice to hear a story of a family sharing inheritance especially when one DC cared for a parent, instead of the usual grab, grab, grab.

Your sister must have some income other than PIP; most likely Universal Credit but she could also be on ESA and HB (if she's been claiming for a long time). If she's on any of these benefits, she needs to contact her local Citizens Advice first, before she does anything else.
