Tax Credits Migration

Hi all, I have received my Universal Credit letter to migrate from tax Credits on 1st May. However, my HMRC app is still showing payment for tax credits mid May and June.

I am due to have a change of circumstances at end of May where I will no longer be entitled to TCs or UC.

My question is, will they let me stay on tax credits for the sake of three weeks? Has anyone else had a similar situation. Find it difficult to get through on phone line. Many thanks 😊

No. Your tax credits stop on that date or the day you submit your UC application.
For people moving to UC from TC there's usually a period of approx 5 weeks with no benefit payments as UC is paid in arrears.

Thank you. The UC migration letter stated "if you are unable to move to UC credits, to contact". The payment for tax credits is due on the 18th, so wondered if anyone has done this to save all the admin of migrating to UC as will only be entitled to one more payment as circumstances changing end of May.

There are some circumstances in which you can delay it, I think mainly if you ahve a child turning 19 soon and Tc would end after that.

In some circumstances they will delay a migration where you need more time to get support in completing the UC forms. They don't ask for evidence for this, you have to call them and say something about getting advice on form completing from an advice agency. It's down to their discretion rather than a right. I have been able to get an extra six weeks as I was waiting for an appointment with CAB. My friend has done the same, although in her case she never planned to migrate to UC (too stressful due to savings and being self employed) but it gave her a few extra weeks on TCs.

With the migration, do you have to apply from scratch for UC or do they use their common sense and literally migrate you?

I feel like my experience over the years with TC has probably answered this question, but I'm trying to work out if it's worth all the bank account statement procurement and proving who I am and telling them 200 times I work full time etc.

You need to apply yourself. It's fairly straightforward unless self employed.
