Money on Maternity Leave

MummyLK · 06/03/2024 11:53

I started maternity leave in October. I'm going back early at the end of May but currently my husband and I are really struggling for money as we didn't have as much saved as we thought we did. I'm wondering if there are any (legal 😂) ways to earn some extra cash at home until I go back to work?

Can you go back early, do KIT days?

MummyLK · 06/03/2024 12:05

Yes, but my employer pays them all in one go at the end of mat leave, and ideally I need money now

what about going back early

wizzler · 06/03/2024 12:32

Worth asking about the kit day approach ... sounds as if it could conflict with Nat min wage policy ?

No, that's not correct of them. I'd challenge that.

Have you checked whether you could get Universal Credit?

Propertylover · 06/03/2024 13:19

@wizzler is right NMW means you should receive at least NMW for hours worked in each pay period. The maximum pay period is 31 days. https://www.gov.uk/national-minimum-wage/employers-and-the-minimum-wage

I would also suggest looking at the Money Matters threads - earn £10 per day.

The National Minimum Wage and Living Wage

Who's entitled to the minimum wage, what's included when working out the minimum wage, and what happens if there's a dispute.

@MummyLK have you also checked if you are entitled to any benefits?

MummyLK · 06/03/2024 15:39

I have, only the standard child benefit
