Had pedicure that 'went wrong'.....what are the chances of getting a refund?

Hello

posted on the health thread last weekend. Basically I had a pedicure (purchased as a gift for me) at a local beauty place.

During the pedicure the therapist attempted to trim back the cuticles on one of my big toes she basically went back too far (she fully removed it) and made my foot bleed, obviously this was a very painful too!!

I told her at the time that my foot was hurting and also that I was worried she had made my foot bleed (which continued on and off for the duration of the treatmentm and surely must pose an infection risk to myself and potentially other clients) Obviously I had not gone for a surgical proceedure!

I mentioned it again before I left but she basically brushed me off and implied I was making a fuss about nothing.

I paid (probably shouldnt have) and walked home. When I got home I was now in pain and had a proper look at the nail. To my horror she had left the whole cuticle area ragged and red raw.She has also cut down the toenail so far back on the same toe that the tissue underneath is exposed and is really painful to walk on or wear shoes at present.

Anyway, having seen the damage I was quite upset and my DP phoned the salon and spoke to the manageress. She then ostensibly went to speak to the therapist as dp had explained that the bleeeding had been discussed with her at the time.

The manageress then phoned us back and said that the girl had outright denied there had been any bleeding or any other problem with the treatment She insisted that I came back in immediately so that she could inspect what had been done.

To be honest this was the last thing I wanted to do, I was upset, in pain and by this time had sole charge of DS (DP having to go out himself). I explained that I had already discussed the issue with the girl and although I had indeed paid for the 'treatment' it was only on reflection, and having examined what had been done myself that I felt it was not an acceptable level of service (to be honest I feel it was well below acceptable, probably negligent) and asked her to refund my money.

To cut a long story short she has refused.

I took a photo of the toe (it even made the ladies behind the counter in boots cringe) and wrote her a polite letter enclosing photo again requesting that she refund the money.

Do people think I have reasonable chance of getting this money back?

TBH it is now more about the principle, especially the blatant lies the therapist told. I have never 'claimed' or 'compained' about anything in my life but this was just too much .

Any thoughts /advice much appreciated.

Trading standards is my first thought. They must be regulated by an industry body, surely...if you get nowhere, I would tell them you are reporting them for 'misconduct' or whatever you'd call it when it's toe related.

The city council should have a trading standards dept as well.

My god, poor you! If you can face it, it might be worth going to a doctor to get independent verification of the butchery.

Local paper might also be interested !

Not acceptable at all.... Yes local council may have a department that is relevant and the salon must belong to some organisation.

We are all far too polite (in general) in this country, would do the salon good to get a kick in the rear end.

Pooryou, i hope your toe gets better.
