Pensions Q

Looking for some advice on two separate pensions I have, one Nest, one Aviva. Im not currently contributing to either and they both have a similar small amount in the pot.

Is it better to move one into the other or leave them separate? If moving, how do I decide which to keep? I had an idea Nest is the better option but really no idea.

Really grateful for thoughts.

You can keep them separate or combine if you find it easier to keep an eye on.

A few things to consider

  1. What are the underlying investments? You should be able to get this info from the pension provider. And is this appropriate for your stage of life (eg if you're younger ideally you would invest more in equity to build wealth, this moves to cash as you near retirement). You may choose the one best suited to you now.
  2. Any underlying fund / provider fees - I think these are nil for NEST. Ie which is best value for money
  3. Which one is getting you the best returns? (Obviously past performance is not an indicator of future returns and all that, but you can see how well it's hit benchmarks etc)

If you're not comfortable choosing then either get financial advice or leave them where they are!

I’ve a small amount in a Nest pension, it’s only gone up about 3% in five years, which is rubbish!
