Grocery costs for family of 3

Hi,

we’ve recognised that our grocery spend is getting silly. Mindless shopping and not meal planning means we’re spending too much and wasting food.

we’re a family of 3. I dc aged 13. No fussy eaters and no special dietary requirements. If we shop at Aldi/lidl and meal plan, what would a realistic weekly food budget be? Needs to include sandwiches for packed lunches. Breakfast is usually porridge or weetabix.

We are 2 adults and a 15 year old. I usually spend 40-50 at Lidl, then 20 odd at an independent greengrocers for fruit and veg. About once a month another 20 odd at a refill shop for herbs, spices, pasta and stuff.

We don't feel hard done by food wise. We all have packed lunches and rarely have take away.

Meal planning is key. We have chicken once a week, maybe a small amount of meat like bacon bits or chorizo another night and that is pretty much it for meat.

Soup at least once a week, with bread and cheese.

We are a family of three, with an 8 year old. Our weekly grocery (including stuff for cleaning, toiletries, laundry etc) is between £100-£110. This covers my husband and mine lunch for the whole week. We also have either fish or meat for our dinners. Before COL, our weekly grocery was about £80-£90. I don't think I can lower it back to £80-£90 unless we cut fish and meat. We do our shopping online at Tesco, so it could have been cheaper if we go to Lidl/Aldi.
