Main income earner - advice please

Hi

My DH had a serious accident 2 months ago and has sustained injuries that sadly mean he will very likely not be able to work again. He was the main earner. I am now going to be the family’s main source of income. Any savings we have will need to supplement my husband’s lost income to help me pay the mortgage until it is up for renewal.

I have limited sick pay in my job which is now even more limited due to taking 2 months off following his accident.

I am thinking I need to start looking at income protection insurance in case I fall sick or made redundant. Can anyone provide me any advice on this? Or the best way to obtain advice on this?

I lie awake most nights stressing about this new scary situation I find myself in and ironically, it’s making me ill!

who is your mortgage with? I would gain advice from your bank as the mortgage managers often also do protection and normally without taking commission

Thanks Wolfpa. I’m with Sanatader. Will have a look.

I'm so sorry op, it's a lot to deal with. We're in a similar situation as I had to give up work due to illness. We organised our insurance through London & Country for no charge. We've used them for years as they will find you the best deal for your circumstances and budget from all the insurers. I wouldn't go via your bank as they only sell their own products and you won't get the best deal. Our insurance isn't cheap, but I know that if something happens to my husband we won't be thrown into poverty and will have some time to adjust financially.

Thanks for your response lightningstrikes. And sorry to hear about your situation. I’m trying to keep my monthly expenses down but this is something that I think I have to get in place.

Hopefully, your DH will be compensated for his accident and this is just a short term necessity.

As others have said shop around don’t just go with your bank as there could be better deals out there for you.

Thanks for your response greentangerine. Not sure if we have a claim yet
