Decent broadband

Hello,
We are currently with UPP but, as they have been bought out by VMO2, we are looking to change providers. We do not want to use virgin media due to their provision in our local area being dire.

There are six people in the house who are all heavy internet users for work ( from home), study and gaming.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a decent broadband supplier that lives up to its claims, doesn't cost too much per month, and not necessarily with a TV or telephone service please?

Thank you.

We have no problems with BT.

Apart from Virgin they all go through the same wires, so pick based on customer service, not price. Plusnet have been fabulous for us. Would avoid TalkTalk like the plague.

We just got community fibre and it’s excellent. Gigabit fibre only £25/month. Also they give £100 Amazon vouchers if you have a referral code :)

we have the broadband in every room package for £30 a month and they provided 3 nodes.

See if you can get fibre to the house. If you are remote, it is unlikely so your next best thing is fibre to the cabinet.

Cable broadband is a higher speed, but is contended (shared) between the head end (their version of the exchange) and the customer so you will notice a difference in times of high demand (children off school etc) which can affect the quality of video streaming etc. The phone based providers contend differently. With higher speeds these days, the difference is less noticeable, and there are many variables.

I use plusnet who are owned by BT now, but have a great service experience.

P.S. I worked for BT for 20 years and VM for 5 years so have direct experience of the inner workings of both.

Community fibre has been great for me but only available in London I think
