Hi,

We have old Enduring PoA in place for financial decisions but thought we would update both finance and health with new LPoAs. We can fill the forms online on the gov.uk website, and then pay just the registration fee. I have printed off the forms, and they look fairly straight forward. We have a fairly simple family. Me and DH with 2 adult children, so not complicated. Has anyone set these up themselves, or do we need a solicitor?

I did mine myself, it was really simple.

We did ours. You just need to be careful that they are signed in the correct order as far as I can remember.

We completed them online then printed for signatures etc. and paid upfront. Just heed the written advice over the best boxes to be ticked if you have more than one attorney; all signatures were for the same day.

I did ours. Took a while to get my head around all the names (donor, attorney, correspondent etc) but, as long as you take your time and are methodical, it’s easy. I enjoyed putting in signing stickies to say who had to sign where <sad but true>

I was quoted nearly £1k for a solicitor to do 4 x LPA 😱

Thanks very much. I was expecting loads of replies telling me tobuse a solicitor, so its encouraging that it appears to be as simple as I thought it would be. We are used to filling forms in so it shouldn't be too onorous. Thanks again.

We are old, we have done both POAs ourselves. We were very meticulous and very careful with it... but it did take quite a long time to set up (getting all the signatures, witnesses etc)

I agree with the sticky notes for people where to sign (It was our DCs who were signing). The most onerous bit was the witness stuff.

We did ours using the gov website with no solicitors.

I've done mine for both parents - I'm an attorney for both of them, they're attorneys for each other, and my brother is a back up attorney. I did it all online, it was very straightforward, and once you've entered someone's details you can use the same details to populate another form, which made things even easier.

For signing, I got everyone to sign and put the same date on, it made things much less stressful.

All four came back to me with no problems.

You can leave the EPA in place and just do the Health & Welfare PoA.

OldTinHat · 31/01/2024 17:52

I'm just waiting for some paperwork to arrive and will be doing mine myself via the gov website. Apparently its really important to get the dates to match up.

The filling in of the forms is simple - the mistake I made when sending off the signed copies was taking out blank pages. They returned both sets telling me they needed ALL the pages, even the blank ones!
