Is scrap the only option for my car?

My 2007, semi-automatic car needs a new clutch. This costs around three times the value of the car and I can manage without it (I think). How can I squeeze any value out? Is scrap value the only way?

If it actually drives, try webuyanycar

Stick it on eBay for repair. You may be lucky and get someone willing to repair it but if not, it can be sold for spares and will likely give you more money than scrap value.

When our ancient Ford Ka failed its MOT (rust near seatbelt anchor points, not economical to fix) we were pleasantly surprised how much it fetched on Ebay. It was bought by a parts breaker.

Yes I'd agree with this. Dc had similar issue and when went to buy a new car they said don't part exchange with us go to we buy any car. Dc got more than the part exchange and scrap offers. It was so quick and easy.

Thanks all for the advice, really interesting. Never thought of eBay.

Are you saying you can find someone to repair it on eBay? How?

@Straysocks You list the advert on eBay as usual but put in the heading and info that it requires repair. Sometimes you will get a garage wanting to buy it as they can repair cheaply and then resell at a profit. If not, people can buy the whole vehicle and break it down for parts, which again makes the vehicle more valuable than scrap money. Either way, you advertise it with the known fault and someone purchases the whole vehicle but gives you more money than a scrap yard. I’ve had to do that with my last two cars and both got a lot more money than £150 quoted at the scrap yard.

Thank you for this.

I went with scrap your car. com, or whatever.

They gave me the price quoted, which was pretty low. But they did do it no hassle.

I was sad to see my (undrivable) car towed away. I think they got a bargin because it had loads of good bits on it.

C'est la vie.
